Pottery Class in Tamba
The other week, the missus and I drove up into Rokko Mountains, the mountains nearest to us, to a little place called Tamba, about 2 hours away, which is famous for it`s pottery. We had a nice lunch (I had chicken karaage – deep fried chicken pieces, and she had soba), then we attempted to make some nice cups and pots. Great fun, if a little tricky. You get a big wadge of clay, and a table wheel thing (technical term I believe), and off you go.
A very nice man was giving us pointers (in Japanese, so I only got about half of it, but I did ok), and we ended up with some “interesting” pots. Well, my girlfriends were pretty good, she`s done it before, mine left a lot to be desired.
My pots are the middle two, not so smooth, but have that natural, rough feel, eh.
The place will fire them, and paint them, so we go back in a couple of weeks to pick them up! Lets hope they don`t leak.
